Early on a Monday morning last week I ate a quick oatmeal
breakfast and hopped on a bus for the quick ride to Kitchener. My plan was to
spend the day out at Transpire Organic Farm, a small organic farm near Baden,
Ontario taking some pictures. Once in Kitchener, I grabbed a quick ride out to
the farm with the farm owner and a few other helpers. By the time we arrived
the sun was shining brightly even though it was still around eight in the
morning. Everyone was quickly put to work harvesting the various vegetables and
I was left to wander around and take some pictures. There were carrots,
tomatoes, onions, beans, lettuces, and various other vegetables, and I did my
best to finish the picture taking before the sun got too strong. Somewhat satisfied
with the pictures I took; I set my camera down and volunteered my harvesting
services which got me assigned to harvesting beans. I soon grew accustomed to
bending over and lifting leaves aside to search for the ripe bean pods. With
half a bucket filled with beans, I moved on to helping bunch carrots, a task
which was quickly finished. Up next I set to work on harvesting a section of the
25 meters or so of garlic rows that the farm had. By this time the sun was
starting to really heat things up and I watched as another helper who was
harvesting garlic slowly tan a shade darker. Needless to say I wasn’t looking
forward to seeing the results of my t-shirt tan. The day moved by quickly and
soon we brought the vegetables to distribute to the farm members. At that point
my day was finished and I made my way back home, tired but happy with the farm
experience.
This looks very tasty. I can think of like some good recipes.
